Tunebite: Remove DRM copy protection from music

Tunebite: Remove DRM copy protection from music

Do you shop MUSIC or AUDIO BOOKS at NOKIA store, iTunes store, Yahoo! Music subscription or others? If yes this is another must have tool from audials.com. I also reviewed their product Audials Mobile (which let u download music easily via mobile) a while ago.

The songs that you can buy for instance in Nokia store or other music stores are often DRM protected. So you can´t use them on other devices.

Tunebite frees music and audio books from DRM copy protection and converts unprotected audio files. Tunebite Platinum universal converter removes DRM copy protection from music, audio books and videos, converts unprotected audio and video files into 100 file formats that can be played on any device and comes with many extras.

I had the chance to test Tunebite platinum and here is my experience with the product:

Interface:

Tunebite’s graphical user-interface (GUI) has a cleaner appearance which makes using Tunebite intuitive and easier to use.

Media file Conversion:

Tunebite makes it easy to convert media files by providing a drag-and-drop area, or via clicking the Add button near the top of the screen. During testing Tunebite I was able to convert a mixture of music and video files (copy protected and DRM-free) without any problems and produced good results.
• Output Audio Formats: M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, WMA Pro
• Output Video Formats: 3GP, AVI, MPEG4, SONY PSP, WMV7, WMV9, XVID

Perfect Audio:

Perfect Audio mode which guarantees a perfect reproduction of the original copy-protected file. The downside to using this new feature is it takes significantly more time to convert files. If you’ve got a lot of DRM-protected files then be prepared for a long wait!

Conversion Modes:

The default mode is aimed at the beginner who needs a simplified interface to quickly convert their files. For the more advanced user, a change in mode will reveal more options for bitrates and custom configurations.

Conversion Speed and Quality:

Speed is ok, but the quality of the converted files is excellent.

System Requirements:

• Operating system: Windows XP / Vista
• Minimum Processor: 1 GHz
• Memory: 512 MB RAM
• Software: Windows Media Player 9+ / iTunes 6+
• Video: Minimum resolution 1024 x 768 pixels

Pros:

• Good user-interface
• Good file format support and conversion speed
• Excellent set of media tools
You can record both audio and video streams from popular streaming websites like, Last.fm, Pandora, iJigg, SoundClick, LaunchCast, MusicLoad, YouTube, MySpace, and others.
• Parental Control features

Cons:

• Perfect Audio mode is slow
• Interface looks good, but there are so many buttons that aren’t well labeled. It makes it look complicated when it really isn’t.
• TuneBite doesn’t convert music files, it records them. That’s not necessarily a problem, except that it takes much longer than conversion. Depending on the file type, especially if it is protected music, TuneBite has to record the song in real-time. That means that it could take hours upon hours to convert your entire library.

On the bright side, the latest version of TuneBite can convert files at up to 54x speed.
The video tutorials on the TuneBite site help you run through all the features and menus you need to use. It’s a good way to familiarize yourself with the display because it is so confusing at first.

But these minor problems don’t overshadow how good Tunebite is to use. It’s a solid performer that’s got a great selection of additional tools that go beyond simple DRM file conversion. Tunebite is certainly recommended if you’re frustrated by the restrictions of DRM or need a media toolbox that can convert, record, and backup your music and video files.

Nokia N97 Bug List

Nokia N97 Bug List

The biggest issue right now seems to be with AT&T’s 3G network causing repeated reboots on certain N97s.

The following is a list of N97 problems, bugs, and other irregularities. [Obtained from varoius sources. Not checked by me.]

Annoying Bugs

- 3G causes the N97 to crash and reboot endlessly. This only seems to happen in certain areas, leading me to believe that the N97 has problems with one of the two 3G bands on AT&T (850 or 1900). Any use of 3G causes endless reboots in any application that uses 3G. Fix: switch your phone to use EDGE, or get a new SIM card from AT&T. More info at [Nokia Support Discussions]

- Unlocking the phone via lock switch will not activate the backlight most of the time. This happens on the first unlock after an idle period – subsequent unlocks will activate the backlight until the phone goes into idle mode again. Seems to be a pretty universal problem. Extremely annoying because I have to hit the unlock switch a minimum of three times, usually more. No fix yet.

Home Screen

- The portrait/landscape wallpaper display is screwy. When you use a standard 300×640 vertical image as your background, it will not display correctly in landscape mode. Basically, instead of rotating the image 90 degrees, the phone will take the middle 300 pixels and make an 640×300 image out of it – meaning you get a nice blown-up image in landscape view. Lovely! Fix: when creating a wallpaper image, use a 640×640 image.

- Hitting certain keyboard keys repeatedly causes the screen to freeze for a lengthy amount of time. Basically, whenever you hit a non-numeric key, the screen clears for a quick second, showing only the background and a broken side menu. Pressing the button repeatedly causes some kind of loop, which lags the phone to all hell. Try it with the Function + top row of keys for a bit ‘o fun.

- Unlocking the phone via slide sometimes shows the message “Use keyguard switch to unlock screen and keys” for 1-2 seconds.

- Unlocking the phone via slide while in landscape mode will sometimes cause the screen to reset to portrait mode for a quick second before reverting to landscape mode.

Browser

- Opening the browser and selecting Options -> Exit while loading up a default page sometimes crashes the application.

Software

- Deleting consecutive emails too quickly in Nokia Messaging using the delete key (with delete confirmation turned off) crashes the program.

- Entering a note with the keyboard in Active Notes is extremely laggy.

Beware of Fake Nokia N97

Latest nokia gadgets, news, mobile reviews, firmware software updates

The N97 is officially available at Nokia Flagship stores in the USA. Great news, but you’ll have to pay retail – $700 bucks to be exact. Or, you could do the next best thing and preorder it from Amazon for $603.99. But you’ll have to wait until June 30th, when the phone starts shipping.

And then…you might be tempted to buy an N97 from eBay.

First, a quick quiz: what’s real and what’s fake?

The picture you see below is of a fake Nokia N97.

There are a couple of signs that can give away a fake N97.

* A screen that’s not quite as widescreen as it should be.
* Printed logo instead of etched.
* No light sensor. The real thing has one to the right of the videoconferencing camera.
* No silver power button.
* No 3.5mm jack recess.
Keyboard key colors – the letters should be grayish and the function keys should be blue.

Obvious Stuff

Always read the complete auction description. A lot of fake N97 auctions display the bands as “Triband 900/1800/1900” when the phone is quite obviously quad-band (850/900/1800/1900). Also, stay as far away as humanly possible from auctions that display “Chinese model” or refer to anything “Chinese” in the description. There are no Chinese N97 models. They are fake. And avoid any N97 auctions that say the phone features TransFlash memory, of all things.

Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 Available for Free Download

Latest nokia gadgets, news, mobile reviews, firmware software updates

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia released today a new beta version of its Nokia Ovi Suite. The application, as many of you might already know, allows users to keep their Nokia device and personal computer fully synchronized at all times. Moreover, the new Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 Beta also enables users to easily shuttle multiple content types between the handset and the computer.

The fresh software solution allows users to easily move messages, contacts, photos, videos, music and more between their computer and their Nokia device, while also enabling them to share photos on Ovi and to discover the wide range of Ovi services that also includes map downloads.

At the same time, users will be able to always keep their devices up to date through the Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0, which comes with a more user-friendly approach. The mobile phone maker tried to offer users a single software solution to connect their devices to PCs, and the Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 will automatically uninstall the Nokia Ovi Suite 1.x and Nseries PC Suite, and exits the Nokia PC Suite in case it is opened. In addition, the new solution comes with the main features offered by Nokia Photos, Nokia Software updater and Nokia Map loader.

There are more than 100 different Nokia S60 and S40 devices supported by the fresh Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0, while more are being added all the time, says the development team. Mobile phone users that own devices based on S60 3rd Edition, S60 5th Edition,
or S40 6.1 or newer should find support for their Nokia handsets with this piece of software.

According to the company, the software solution works with Windows Vista SP1 or newer, and Windows XP SP2 or newer, and has been tested on Windows 7 RC as well, though support for the OS will come as soon as the platform becomes available. The
application has been developed based on the Nokia Qt Software, the cross-platform application and UI framework. For the time being, though, the early beta version of Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 is not intented for large consumer audience, but only for the
Nokia Beta Labs community.

The system requirements for the Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 include 2GB hard disk space, 1GHz Intel Pentium 4, 64MB display memory, 512MB RAM, 1024×768 resolution and 24-bit color graphics card.
